David J Rudkin
Emsworth Series
David Jonathan Rudkin, born in Bosham early in the 20th century, grew up in Emsworth during the First World War. After a much-traveled and varied life, during which he worked as a carpenter and boat-builder, and later as a schoolteacher and non-Conformist clergyman, he retired to the Emsworth area, and during the years that remained to him he founded the Emsworth Maritime Museum and what is now the Emsworth Maritime and Historical Trust, and researched and wrote a seven-book sequence, the Emsworth Series, on aspects of the social, communal and industrial history of this Hampshire coastal town. The sequence began with The Hermitage and the Slipper in 1974, and ended in 1993 with Emsworth in the First World War. All were published by the author himself, or by Castle Communications, Rowlands Castle, Hants., and printed by St Richard's Press Ltd. of Chichester.
... a unique reference-source for all those who have an interest or concern in local history.
